Haroon Lorgat: "It is unfortunate that the match has had to be relocated but we must adopt stringent safety and security measures for all players and officials"

Uganda Cricket CEO, Justine Ligyalingi: "We fully understand the decision that ICC has had to take"

The ICC today announced that the four-day first-class ICC Intercontinental Shield match between Uganda and Namibia has been moved from Kampala, Uganda to Windhoek, Namibia. The match, which will decide which team faces the UAE in the final, will be staged from 18 to 21 September, 2010.

During the tour, the two teams will also play two 50-over-a-side matches on 23 and 25 September and a Twenty20 game on 26 September.

Following the tragic terrorist attacks in Uganda on 11 July, the ICC undertook a detailed investigation and ICC Security Manager, Sean Carroll, travelled to Uganda in late July to meet with the Uganda Cricket Association and other officials.

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said: "Unfortunately, the Uganda Cricket Association was not able to pull together an appropriate security plan in time to undertake the necessary implementation steps. After giving every opportunity for the game to go ahead under suitable arrangements in Uganda, and ICC extending the deadline for UCA on several occasions, a decision has had to be taken.

"It is unfortunate that the match has had to be relocated but we must adopt stringent safety and security measures for all players and match officials.

"In these circumstances, we wish to thank Uganda Cricket for their understanding and agreement with our decision to relocate the match to Namibia."

UCA Chief Executive Justine Ligyalingi said: "It is disappointing to lose the hosting rights, particularly after we had tried our best to put together a security plan which could satisfy the needs of the ICC."

"However, we fully understand the decision that ICC has had to take."
