Collins Obuya's gritty knock and Shem Obado's incisive spell helped Kenya XI snatch a nine-run win over the touring United Arab Emirates XI in the second warm-up one-day match at the Mombasa Sports Club on Tuesday.
The four-match one-day series is part of Kenya XI's build-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Opting to bat first Kenya XI were restricted to 204 in 48.5 overs. In reply, UAE XI were halted in their tracks at 195 in 45.5 overs.
Obuya was the star as he made a 92-ball 65 with four boundaries. He shared useful partnerships with Steve Tikolo (32) and Tanmay Mishra (34). UAE XI skipper Mohammed Tauqir was the best bowler on view as he picked up a rich haul of 5-45.
Faced with a modest chase, UAE XI slipped to 95 for five, before a 38-run stand between Swapnil Patil (41) and Arfan Haider (36) revived the innings. But Obado stepped into the frame and broke the back of UAE XI's batting with a spell of 4-42 and handed the hosts a win.
The third match in the series will be played on Thursday.
