The ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 3 got underway on Saturday and the tournament began with victories for Malawi and Rwanda.
The host team, Malawi played at Minge Sports Club against a young Lesotho National team. The hosts were in early trouble at 73 for 5 until healthy six-wicket and ninth-wicket partnerships were responsible for the home side posting a positive 165 all out. The saviour of the inning was Naeem Chaudhry with 51. Pick of the bowlers for Lesotho was Bongane Mosioho with a return of 3 for 17 on a very docile pitch.
In reply, Lesotho were bundled out by a very aggressive bowling attack, as the youngsters were not able to handle the sustained pressure from the mature Malawians. Lesotho only managed 98 all out as Zaffar Sukhera shared the bowling spoils with Frank Aleck, each getting four wickets.
In the other game of the day, Rwanda beat Gambia by seven wickets. Gambia made 92 all out with Bob Bashir Songa taking 4-13, before Rwanda reached its target after 19.1 overs.
