Rwanda clinches ICC Africa Division 3 title

Rwanda moved one step closer to playing in the ICC World Twenty20 2012 after defeating Seychelles by eight runs on Sunday to clinch the ICC Africa Division 3 title.

Electing to bat first the Rwandans put on a very competitive total of 125 for 4 in its allotted 20 overs. Opener Audifax Byiringiro top scored with 31 runs, while playing the anchor role, while Sairam Gopalan scored a quick fire 24 of 29 balls, with Andre Kayitera making 29.

Despite Shiva Nagaraja making 41 off 58 balls and Harikrishnan Kamalan hitting 39, it fell just short of its target, although it can be proud of its efforts in its first appearance at an ICC event.

Rwanda will now take part in the ICC Africa Division 2 tournament in Benoni, South Africa in April.

The third place play off was a North versus South affair as Lesotho took on Morocco.

Lesotho managed 93 all out in 19 overs, with Redouan Guelzim taking 4-4, before Morocco collapsed from 34-0 to 76 all out with Seth Suleman taking four wickets.

The fifth place play-off saw Gambia and Cameroon in a West African derby. Cameroon batting first was able to post 87 all out in its 20 overs. Franck Patipe top scored with a 22, while Gabriel Njie had match figures of 4-13 in his four overs.

Gambia then passed its target with eight wickets in hand, with Moses Bhoum scoring an unbeaten 51 not out.
