Hamilton Masakadza smashed a 151-ball 156 to steer Zimbabwe to an overwhelming 91-run victory over Kenya in the first ODI of the five-match series played at Harare Sports Club on Monday.
Chosing to bat first, Zimbabwe set a mammoth target of 313 for the loss of four wickets thanks to Masakadza's ton. He was well-supported on the crease by Mark Vermeulen (49 off 72 balls) and wicket-keeper Brendan Taylor (unbeaten 44 in 27 balls) as the trio massacred the bowling order.
Kenya's run chase suffered under tight bowling pressure by the hosts, losing wickets at regular intervals. Kyle Jarvis and Prosper Utseya returned with figures of 3-36 each to help skittle out the visitors for 222 with a ball remaining. Steve Tikolo was the top-scoring batsman for Kenya with 49 runs in 58 balls.
The two sides will next meet for the second ODI on Tuesday at the same venue.
