In a tightly contested affair at Mpingwe Sports Club, Sierra Leone sealed its spot in the ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 2 in South Africa 2010.
Sierra Leone was on the front foot from the beginning, winning of the toss and asking Rwanda to bat. This ploy worked with the Rwandan batting order slumping to 61-6. A brave rear guard action resulted in a target of 135 to win. Subhashish Samal top-scored with 41 runs batting at number seven.
At 95-4, Sierra Leone appeared to cruise to a comfortable victory but three quick wickets saw it slump to 97-6. Thankfully the lower order kept the inning steady and Sierra Leone won by two wickets.
In the other game of the day played at the Country Club Limbe, Gambia beat Lesotho by two wickets in a hard-fought match.
Winning the toss, Lesotho decided to bat first and set a target of 119. Thabang Mafereka and Bongane Mosiuoa contributed well for Lesotho scoring 23 and 25 respectively.
In response, Gambia took eight wickets and 22.1 overs to achieve the target. Masiu Tolofi picked up four wickets for 20 runs in a gallant defence of the small target.
