Hosts Uganda registered an impressive 75 run win over Kenya in the ICC Africa Division One Twenty20 tournament on Monday. At the Kyambogo Cricket Ground in Kampala, Uganda batted first and posted an impressive 177 for no loss in its 20 overs.
Arthur Kyobe (74 not out: 57b, 10x4) and Roger Mukasa (101 not out: 63b, 11x4, 1x6) batted without being separated. None of the Kenya bowlers made any impression on the Uganda batsmen. Kenya's chase never took off and Uganda managed to restrict it to 102 in 19.2 overs. For Uganda, Deusdedit Muhumuza (2-23), Brian Masaba (2-15) and Ronald Ssemanda (2-19) shared the wickets around.
In the other game at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Ghana registered a narrow three-run win over Nigeria. Ghana batting first was bowled out for 129 in 20 overs. Ghana skipper Peter Ananya made 34 to register the top score in the innings. Olalekan Awolowo (3-24) and Endurance Ofem (2-10) shared the wickets for Nigeria.
In its reply, Nigeria lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Olajide Bejide (59: 41b, 2x4, 5x6) held the innings together with his knock. Nigeria needed four runs to win in the final over. But Nigeria lost three wickets in the final over to end up on the losing side by three runs. For Ghana, Moses Anafie (2-35) and Isaac Aboagye (2-24) were the key wicket-takers.
