Kennedy Obuya joins Kenya's selection panel

Tue, Aug 2, 2011 4:33 PM

Former Kenya international Kennedy Obuya has become a National Selector to complete the newly constituted Cricket Kenya National Selection panel.

The 39-year-old former wicket keeper batsmen, who played 90 one day internationals for Kenya, joins Chairman of Selectors and former team mate Alpesh Vadher and new National Coach Mike Hesson on the panel. They will be advised by National captain Collins Obuya and Cricket Kenya's panel of elite coaches.

The completion of the new panel follows a comprehensive review of the selection process for national teams and interviews of a wide range of candidates. The selectors will be implementing robust selection processes for all national teams with particular emphasis on the national team, A and Under 19 squads. They will also recommend players for national contracts.

Cricket Kenya Chief Executive Tom Sears said: 'Kennedy has a wealth of knowledge and experience which he can offer and is still very much involved with senior league cricket in Kenya. With his knowledge of the players coming through and his coaching background he is an ideal National selector.

'We now have a panel in place to ensure we have a robust selection and talent identification programme,an area we needed to address. There is no doubt with all the qualities, experience and knowledge our new selectors have that the new Selection Panel can contribute enormously in these areas.'

Kennedy Obuya said: 'I am delighted to join the selection panel and work alongside my fellow selectors. This is an exciting time for Kenyan cricket with a lot of talent coming through as we look to build a squad capable of taking Cricket Kenya back up the rankings.'
