Man of the mantch was awarded to PNG's Christopher Amini at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012
In a low-scoring contest, Papua New Guinea prevailed over Nepal by 35 runs in a Group A contest in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012 on Thursday.
At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, PNG after being asked to bat first posted 137-8 in its 20 overs. Nepal in reply was restricted to 102-8 in its allotted 20 overs.
For PNG the knocks by Geraint Jones (32) and Christopher Aamini (38 n.o.) were key efforts in the total. Nepal's key wicket-takers were Shakti Gauchan (2-22) and Basanta Regmi (2-34).
Nepal's chase never took off as it lost wickets at regular intervals.
Amini turned in a good spell with the ball as well picking up 2-20 to play a part in PNG's win.
Nepal coach Pubudu Dassanayake was disappointed with the result: "We did well to restrict them, but PNG bowled in some good areas to restrict us. We need to put this behind us and look ahead to the rest of the competition."
Amini was naturally thrilled with his effort. "I am learning from batting with Geraint Jones. We have never had that kind of experience in the team. All that is adding up well for me when I go out to bat. I hope that I can build on this," said Amini.
