Kenya registered a 93-run victory over Tanzania in the opening day of the Senior Women's Championship played at Sir Ali Muslim Club, Nairobi on Tuesday.

Put on to bat first, the hosts managed a total of 161-8 in 50 overs with top scores from Sarah Bhakita (39) and wicket-keeper Maria Aimee (37 not out). Tanzania's Monica Pascal and Khadija Nasibu were the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-25 and 2-22 respectively.

In reply, Tanzania's run chase choked under tight bowling and fielding play as it lost wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed to 68 in 29 overs. Mwanaidi Ibrahim remained the top scorer with her unbeaten 21 while Perlyne Omamo (3-14) and Emily Ruto (2-12) were the top bowlers for Kenya.

Tanzania will next face Uganda on Wednesday while Kenya will play the latter on Thursday at the same venue.
