UAE opener Arshad Ali's smashed a valiant century on the final day of the four-day ICC Intercontinental Shield match against Uganda even as the visitors managed to pull off a draw in a tightly contested clash played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 20-23 January.
Arshad smashed 130 runs to help lift UAE total to 282-9 in 87 overs with good support from Saqib Ali (77). UAE bowlers also performed effectively to limit Uganda to 79-6 in 43 overs at the end of the day's play. However, UAE's dominance on the fourth day with both bat and ball was not enough for Uganda to draw the match and retain its position at the top of the table.
Right-arm medium pacers Qasim Zubair (3-16) and Shoaib Sarwar (2-20) were the pick of the bowlers for UAE.
The draw means that Uganda holds on to its position at the top of the ICC Intercontinental Shield points table with 29 points with UAE on 17. The two teams will now play each other in three one-day games before UAE hosts the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and Uganda tours Kenya for a Twenty20 tri-series along with Scotland.
UAE will play its next ICC Intercontinental Shield game against Bermuda in July 2010, while Uganda's next competition is against Namibia in September.
